Question 5

What is the Arista ACE-L3 Data Center Engineering Specialist certification?

Accepted Answer

The ACE-L3-DCENG is a Specialist Level 3 certification within Arista's Enhanced Certification Program. It validates focused expertise in Data Center Engineering, specifically in designing and implementing Layer 2 and Layer 3 Leaf-Spine architectures, VXLAN-EVPN overlays, and CloudVision management on Arista platforms. It was launched June 1, 2025 as part of the new Learning Track approach.

Question 6

Is the ACE-L3 Data Center Engineering exam multiple choice?

Accepted Answer

No. The ACE-L3-DCENG exam is a 4-hour hands-on practical lab exam, not a multiple-choice test. Candidates must configure virtualized Arista equipment in a virtual lab environment to achieve desired outcomes. The exam is open-book, meaning candidates can use documentation and online resources, but cannot collaborate with other people.

Question 7

What are the prerequisites for taking the ACE-L3-DCENG exam?

Accepted Answer

There are no mandatory prerequisites. The Arista Academy certification exams are open to anyone seeking to validate their networking skills, regardless of prior Arista training or certifications. However, active participation in the Arista Data Center Engineering Learning Track with emphasis on completing hands-on labs is strongly recommended, as lab practice directly correlates with higher pass rates.

Question 8

How much does the ACE-L3-DCENG exam cost?

Accepted Answer

The ACE-L3-DCENG exam costs $295 USD. The exam is purchased through the Arista Academy portal or through an authorized Arista training partner. Retakes after a failed attempt require additional payment and a mandatory 14-day waiting period.

Question 9

What topics are covered on the ACE-L3 Data Center Engineering exam?

Accepted Answer

The exam covers three main areas: Implementation of Layer 2 Technologies (VLANs, STP, LACP, MLAG, FHRP), Building and Troubleshooting L2LS Fabric (Layer 2 Leaf-Spine design and deployment), and Building and Troubleshooting L3LS Overlay (BGP underlay, VXLAN, EVPN, CloudVision provisioning and monitoring). Tasks are derived from the Data Center Engineering sub-track syllabus.

Question 10

How long is the ACE-L3 certification valid?

Accepted Answer

The ACE-L3 Specialist certification is valid for 2 years. Recertification can be achieved by earning a new certification at the same or higher level in any track, or by renewing one Specialist or Professional certification every two years. Achieving the Expert Level 7 certification eliminates the need to recertify for any lower-level certifications.

Question 11

What is the difference between ACE-L3 DC Operations and ACE-L3 DC Engineering?

Accepted Answer

The Data Center track is divided into two sub-tracks: Operations and Engineering. The Operations sub-track focuses on Day-2 tasks such as telemetry and troubleshooting. The Engineering sub-track concentrates on the design and architecture of L2 and L3 Leaf-Spine Data Center networks. Each has its own Specialist L3 exam. Earning both Specialist certifications automatically grants the Data Center Professional L5 certification.

Question 12

Can I use tools like Ansible or Python during the ACE-L3 exam?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Arista's open-book exam policy allows the use of any tools or software including CLI, AVD (Arista Validated Designs), CloudVision, Ansible, and Python, unless specifically restricted in a particular task. This reflects real-world engineering practices where professionals use automation and documentation resources.

Question 13

What is the passing score for ACE-L3-DCENG?

Accepted Answer

You need Pass/Fail - all tasks must be completed correctly to pass ACE-L3-DCENG.
